EMF map NL
Putting radiation on the map
We measure everything down to the centimetre or the milligram. How much PFAS in the water, how much microplastics in our bodies or how much CO² is in the air. Everything is monitored, sometimes minute by minute.
But what is being overlooked in that measurement frenzy? What about radiation? Since the beginning of this century, EMF radiation from smartphones and phone masts has increased exponentially, with all kinds of invisible consequences. And with the arrival of smart street lights and self-driving cars, the radiation is only increasing.
On EMF Map, we gain insight into radiation at street level. In various parts of the country, people go out to measure radiation. New measurements are added weekly. When measuring, everyone follows the same protocol and uses the same type of calibrated meter.

Median power flux density in microwatts per square metre (µW/m²), as measured before the introduction of 3.5 GHz and since then, broken down by distance and antenna density (number of antenna installations, ANTs). Based on all published measurements from EMF Map NL and telecom antennas from the Dutch Antenna Register (Antenneregister). Excluding anomalies and measurements at defence radar sites. Split date before/after 3.5 GHz: 10-07-2024.

Measurement Value Legend
On EMF Map NL, measurement values are recorded in microwatt per square metre (μW/m²). A classification for the measurement values is used, derived from the guidelines of the SBM, the BioInitiative and the Council of Europe. Up to 100 μW/m² is green, little radiation. Above that follows orange, red, dark red and black. The colour is based on the measured maximum peak value.
Microwatt per square metre (μW/m²) is a fine-grained scale used to express radiation intensity. The limit for EMF in the Netherlands is 10,000,000 microwatt/m², or 10 Watt/m².
