Independent citizen research into electromagnetic radiation in the Netherlands

EMF Map NL

In 2022, on the initiative of Stichting Stralingsbewust Zeist, the EMF Map NL project was launched. It focuses on conducting outdoor measurements at street level in the range of 200 MHz to 8 GHz. It is independent citizen research carried out by volunteers who contribute as measurement staff.

Global Project

A fixed protocol is followed when measuring. The design comes from Canadian emeritus professor Magda Havas. She started the global project to map radiation in urban areas, Can You Brag about Your City?

Measurements

There are two types of measurements performed. There is a 1-point measurement conducted at one specific location. Additionally, there is a 4-point measurement, measured at four corners of an intersection. 4-point measurements provide a fairer and more balanced picture of radiation levels. With 1-point measurements, the picture can be skewed by the position that is chosen.

Antennas

In addition to measurements, the antenna installations of telecom providers are also shown on the map. The data for this comes from the Antenna Register. On the full map other antennas are also shown, such as those of amateur radio operators and broadcasters. The position of antennas may differ from the actual situation. The most up-to-date data can be found on the Antenna Register.
